October 2012 – and off the coast of North Carolina an unusual disaster has played out. Rescue helicopters have captured a terrifying – but extremely rare – sight. The remains of a battered and broken 18th century style sailing ship rolling heavily in the big seas. At her stern is the name Bounty. This was no ordinary ship – in her time she was a movie star – a beloved museum vessel built in 1960.

In this two-part collaboration with the channel Brick Immortar we’ll explore the design and construction of these unique vessels – their reasons for being. We’ll learn about what happened to the original Bounty in 1789 and the dramatic series of events that inspired Hollywood to create a replica in 1960 – and then we’ll learn about the tragic fate of the replica as Sam from Brick Immortar analyses the final voyage in forensic detail.
